Comparison of Regional Nerve Blocks and Epidural Analgesia for Postoperative Pain Control in Major Abdominal Surgery

The effective postoperative pain control remains a cornerstone of enhanced recovery after major abdominal surgery. This paper compares regional nerve blocks and epidural analgesia in terms of analgesic efficacy, safety profile, and patient outcomes. A critical review of the literature and evaluation of contemporary practices are included. Emerging data demonstrate that regional nerve blocks may provide comparable analgesia with potentially fewer adverse effects, challenging the conventional dominance of epidural techniques.
